Scholarships and Awards

A number of scholarships and awards are available for postgraduate study at Otago, for both local and international students. The scholarships web page is a good place to start looking at what is available and the Graduate Research Services team has information on a wide range of scholarships available to planning students. Below is a list of scholarships that may be of interest to MPLAN students.


 

University of Otago Māori Master's Scholarship

The University of Otago Māori Master's Scholarship provides funding to support Māori Master's students studying at the University of Otago.
 
Applicants must be:

  • obtaining their first Master's qualification
  • domestic students
  • of Māori descent
  • undertaking a thesis-based Master's
     

Selection is based predominantly of academic merit and the applicant's potential for research.

University of Otago Pacific Island Master's Scholarship
 
The University of Otago Pacific Island Master's Scholarship provides funding to support indigenous Pacific Island Master's students studying at the University of Otago.

Applicants must be:

  • obtaining their first Master's qualification
  • domestic students
  • of indigenous Pacific Island descent
  • undertaking a thesis-based Master's 

Selection is based predominantly on academic merit and the applicant’s potential for research.

University of Otago Research Master's Scholarship

The University of Otago Master's Scholarship provides funding to support domestic Master's students completing a thesis at the University of Otago.

Applicants must be:

  • obtaining their first Master's qualification
  • domestic students or Australian students
  • undertaking a thesis-based Master's 

Selection is based predominantly on academic merit and the applicant's potential for research.

University of Otago International Research Master's Scholarship

The University of Otago International Research Master's Scholarship provides funding to support international Master's students studying at the University of Otago.

Applicants must be:

  • obtaining their first Master's qualification
  • international students
  • undertaking a thesis-based Master's 

Selection is based predominantly on academic merit and the applicant's potential for research

Research Funding

Subject to availability of funds, the Geography Department reimburses a proportion of research-related expenses incurred by second year MPlan students enrolled in PLAN 590 or PLAN 5.

Financial support may also be available from local authorities or other agencies interested in the research to be undertaken.
